It would be great to be able to trigger builds from VS Code by entering parameters. I am currently using a script to accomplish this.

Thanks for the suggestion Deniz. 
While this is not what you suggested, I just wanted to let you know that we've just released in Closed Preview the possibility of triggering pipelines from VS Code based on local, unversioned configuration. 
Depending on the situation, you would be able to override parameter values in a local config version, and trigger the workflow you like.

We are evaluating including the possibility of explicitly passing parameters in the future
