Since .NET 5 is now released and since they haven't yet added support, they could start with .NET 5 and not have to worry about .NET Core vs .NET Framework. This is a really important thing for us and would make us almost completely abandon custom images.

Ye, just a CircleCI version of the MS dotnet core image would be a huge help! It's a Linux container so there's no reason not to :)
