CircleCI Ideas

Ability to "Hide" old branches from UI

When a job is ran on a branch it creates an entry in the left panel on the dashboard for the project. As these branches hold historical data of builds they are not deleted when the branch is removed from the VCS (Github/BitBucket). However as branches become old or irrelevant it would be nice to be able to deactivate them in CircleCI or "Archive" them in a way they are no longer in view.

Example of a discuss post on the topic.

this is really frustrating for me - sometimes i can create and delete new branch with the same name as an old branch which is still hanging around and it gets deleted, but this doesn't happen 100% of the time (or even 50% of the time). it makes the interface quite difficult to use, especially in a large organizations. even being able to sort the branches by date would be a step in the right direction - then my most recent builds pop up at the top and i don't have to scroll down to find them.

I would prefer the ability to delete old branches from my project. We run some experimental branches and don't like the fact that old build test outputs and logs sit around in history especially in light of breach activity that could occur. Please allow scrubbing of data by choice?

I have a branch that was deleted over a month ago, and it's still sitting there with it's bright red exclamation point staring at me, tainting my otherwise pristine dashboard of clean running builds.  Please, for the sake of the OCD afflicted let us delete these.

    Hey Mark,

Thanks for reaching out, I've sent you a LinkedIn connection request and we can figure out a time that works for both of us by direct message there.

Looking forward to hearing your feedback,

    Hi Kate,

I’m not sure if you’ll get this reply. I’d love to do a formal interview, but timing isn’t the best (all sessions are around midnight in my local time zone UTC+8, which isn’t ideal). If you’d like any further information on my idea, I’d be happy to provide more information via other channels.

    Best Regards,

    Hi all,

This is a really interesting idea, thank you for sharing. As we overhaul our new UI, helping you get to your desired branch/workflow/job/step-output FASTER is very important to us. We hadn't thought about this idea yet and will now consider it.

I'd like to understand the process and mindset you're coming from in proposing this idea better.

Would any of you be interested in doing a formal user-interview with us? This is a 1-hour recorded video call in which we'll preview our new UI designs to you and assess whether we've solved your problems. We're happy to share a $50 gift card as a token of our gratitude if you participate.

If you're open to it, please book some time here:

Thank you in advance, hope to learn from some of you.
