Ubuntu 18.04 is the most up-to-date LTS version of ubuntu and should be available as image for machine executor.
+1 for this. Not everybody wants to use docker images as there are many reason to go with vm. It's kind of unbelievable there's no 18.04 image yet for machine executor. And that ubuntu 16.04 has one single release. Would upvote 100x time for this issue
I need to run more advanced docker things than what is possible with the remote-docker solution, so I need machine. I was amazed to find out that the default image is 14.04 and that there is nothing newer than 16.04!
Please please please please start caring about these images!
Yet another user chiming in with a +1
I need a machine image that has Java 11 on it.
+1 - This new image will be very useful to naively support newer packages versions. Hope to have the new image available soon. Thanks in advance.
I would love to hear what is the status of this. Would be great if somebody from CircleCI could give us some update. Because it feels like CircleCI does not really care about machine executor images. Ubuntu 18.04 was released in April 2018 and now it's 2020. If CircleCI does not plan to provide more recent images for machine executors, then the people would deserve to know.
